The first question everyone asks

Will my pension be enough?

Most retirees move with Portugal's D7 visa. Here is the income it asks for, and what counts toward it.

D7 retirement visa · 2026

€920a month

is the minimum regular income Portugal asks for. Moving as a couple? Add 50% for your partner: about €1,380 a month.

What counts toward it

  • Canada Pension Plan (CPP)
  • Workplace and private pensions
  • Rental income
  • Dividends and interest

Based on Portugal's 2026 minimum wage, the reference used for the D7 visa. The amount is updated every year.

Good to know: Canada pays CPP to people living in Portugal, in euros, and the two countries have a tax convention in force since 2001. OAS abroad depends on your years in Canada: check yours with Service Canada.

What retirees ask us before they move

How much tax would I pay in Portugal?

Our team in PortugalIt depends on your pensions, your other income and where you live. Your Tax Simulator estimates it bracket by bracket, and a Portuguese tax lawyer can confirm it if you want certainty.

Lisbon, Porto or the Algarve?

Our team in PortugalTalk it through on your free 20-minute call. Lisbon is the priciest; Porto and the Algarve usually cost less, and our community can tell you what daily life is like.

What about healthcare?

Our team in PortugalYour provincial plan has its own rules on time spent outside Canada, so check them before you go. You'll need health insurance for the visa, and once you're a resident you can register with Portugal's national health service.

Good to know

Your questions, answered

Is it really free?

Yes, and it stays free forever. The app, the step-by-step plan, the Tax Simulator, the webinars and your 20-minute call cost nothing. There's no trial period and we never ask for a credit card. If you later choose our done-for-you services, such as a tax consultation with a lawyer, our fees are shown upfront.

Do I need to download an app?

No. The AnchorLess app opens in your browser, on your phone or your computer. Your free account saves your plan, so you can come back to it, update it and book your call. There's no password: we email you a secure link.

Can I split the year between Portugal and Canada?

Residency means living in Portugal: a residence permit can be cancelled after more than 6 months in a row, or 8 months in total, away during its validity. Without residency, Canadians can stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Your plan is built for a full-time move.

I didn't get the email.

It usually arrives within a few minutes. Check your Spam or Promotions folder and look for "AnchorLess". Still nothing? Fill in this page again with the same email address and we'll send you a new link.

Will you call me?

Only if you leave your number. Otherwise, you book your call yourself, in the app.

Do I need to speak Portuguese?

No. English is widely spoken in Lisbon, Porto and the Algarve, and our team works in English. A few words of Portuguese always help with the neighbours.

Can you guarantee my visa?

No one can: the decision belongs to the Portuguese authorities. Our job is to make sure your plan and your application are complete and correct.
