No. IFICI, often called NHR 2.0, has its own conditions. The old NHR covers existing beneficiaries and certain transitional cases. Moving to Portugal now does not automatically open access to that earlier regime.
It applies to eligible net category A and B income, subject to IFICI conditions, for ten consecutive years. It is not a 20% rate on all income or gross salary. The previous five years of non-residence, your activity and the relevant entity must be checked, among other conditions.
No. A sole shareholder who also acts as a director may have a route to examine, but the company, activity, duties and other conditions need to be checked. Passive share ownership is not enough.
Pensions do not benefit from the IFICI exemption for foreign income. Other foreign income needs to be assessed according to its type, source and the rules in each country involved.
The standard application deadline is 15 January of the year following the start of Portuguese tax residence: for example, 15 January 2027 for residence starting in 2026. A late application may allow access for the remaining years. The exact date and procedure must be checked for your case.
No. The introductory call also helps clarify missing information and compare options. Plans that are still in preparation do not receive an automatic rejection.
