Honorary Consulate of Portugal in Santo Domingo

Honorary Consulate - An Honorary Consul, who could be Portuguese or not, and not a diplomat, living in the country and location of his Consulate's operation, appointed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to uphold and protect the rights and interests of the Portuguese State and its citizens, in a city lacking official representation. Honorary Consulates are generally not proficient to execute consular acts, however, under unusual and warranted circumstances, they may be authorized to conduct voter registration processes, civil registration, notary acts and issuing travel documents. The responsibilities of honorary consuls are performed, within their competence limits, in collaboration with the Head of the Mission to which they are linked.
