I love Anchorless! They have been fantastic for my move to Portugal with the NIF, checking account, lawyer and tax consultation. I will be happy with when this process is over, but at least the journey has been smoother with them.
My case manager, Rafaela, was highly dedicated and consistently responsive to all of my questions and follow-ups. Along the way, I also received valuable support with tax advice and house-hunting, which saved me a significant amount of time and effort.
They helped me get my NIF really fast, provided me solid tax advice and I really felt heard thought all the process. I really love their team of professionals and I can’t recommend them enough.
NIF service and bank account opening - worked like a Swiss watch! Tax Consultation with Manuel - was perfect!
They were also very honest in what they could and could not do and didn’t try take my money for services they could not deliver.
The response time, follow-up and great customer service from Rosa. Anchorless seems to have employees who are very engaged and care about the customer experience. Well Done!
They are very patient, taking the time to explain the overall process. Then they break it down into step by step detail and guide you through. Rosa is amazing!
My experience with Anchorless was definitely positive. They were right there to help me when I couldn’t get things right. I appreciated their professionalism and kindness.
IFICI is narrower than the old NHR, and a wrong assumption can cost you years of the 20% rate. A 40-minute call with a tax lawyer tells you if you qualify, which route fits and what to do before you apply.
IFICI depends on your job and on the company you work for. A lawyer checks both against the official lists, even before you sign a job offer.
Startups, exporters, R&D, universities, your own company: each route has its own rules and its own body that checks it. Know which one fits you.
Your deadline depends on when your tax residence starts. Know your date and what to prepare, so you don’t lose a year of the 20% rate.
Dividends, rent, capital gains, pension: find out what IFICI exempts, what it doesn’t, and how it counts for your rate.
No more conflicting advice from forums or AI. You walk away knowing what applies to you and the right next steps for your situation.
A special rate on your Portuguese work income and most foreign income exempt.
Without IFICI, your tax rate climbs with your income. With IFICI, the net income from your eligible activity is taxed at 20%.
€18,642
Per IFICI beneficiary on 2024 income, according to Portugal’s Court of Auditors.
From the year you become resident, as long as you keep an eligible job. Once per person.
Exempt in Portugal, but counted when setting the rate on your other income. Pensions are not covered.

Better to avoid this before it’s too late
IFICI depends on where you work, not only on what you do. Answer three quick checks and pick what describes you to see if a route is likely open to you.
Still have a question about your case? Chat with our team in Portugal.
New to IFICI? Read our IFICI guide →Usually not. Every route runs through a Portuguese entity that meets the route’s rules, and pay for work done in Portugal counts as Portuguese income. With Deel, Remote or another employer of record, the Portuguese entity is your employer, and it rarely fits a route. Your lawyer checks what can work in your case.
Most routes need an employment contract. The managing partner of a single-member company can qualify as a board member, if the company and the role meet the route’s rules. Holding shares isn’t enough, and the tax authority watches companies set up only for IFICI.
Yes, and it’s the best moment. Your lawyer checks the role and the employer against the routes before you commit, so you know what to expect once you’re resident.
Once you’re a Portuguese tax resident, by 15 January of the following year: by 15 January 2027 if you moved in 2026. That date is your application deadline, IFICI itself stays open. Applied late? It still counts, from the year you file until the end of your 10 years.
No. You file it yourself, online, on the Portal das Finanças. Your lawyer tells you which route to choose, what to ask your employer and what to check before you submit.
Foreign employment, business, investment and rental income and capital gains are exempt, but they count when setting the rate on your other income. Pensions are not covered, and income from countries on Portugal’s tax-haven list is taxed at 35%.
