The consular post

Honorary Consulate: what does this post do?

An Honorary Consul, whether Portuguese or not, who resides in the country and location of his Consulate's operation, is appointed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to champion and protect the Portuguese State's rights and interests in cities without an official representation. Honorary Consulates usually don't perform consular acts, except in rare, justified cases where they can conduct voter registration, civil registration, notary acts and issue travel documents. All under the guidance of the Head of the Mission they're tied to.

  • Portuguese Bank Account: major banks include Millennium BCP, Novo Banco and Santander. We can help you get a bank account in Portugal.

The main visa types available from Brazil:

The application usually goes through the Portuguese consulate of your home country if you are not from Brazil. Most visas first grant temporary residence, which can lead to permanent residence after five years. Requirements and processing times change: check them before applying.
