Honorary Consulate of Portugal in Malabo

An Honorary Consul, regardless of nationality or residency, is appointed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to uphold and protect Portuguese State rights and interests where official representation is absent. They often do not have the competence to perform consular actions, however in certain exceptional circumstances, they can conduct voter registration, civil registration, notarial actions, and issue travel documents. The tasks of honorary consuls are executed within their assigned mission's scope.

This consular representation does not employ VFS services and hence oversees all visa applications independently. Every step from application collection to decision making is handled internally, providing complete control over the visa process but may extend processing times due to increased workload.

The application usually goes through the Portuguese consulate of your home country if you are not from Equatorial Guinea. Most visas first grant temporary residence, which can lead to permanent residence after five years. Requirements and processing times change: check them before applying.
