Honorary Consulate of Portugal in Ceuta

An Honorary Consul, whether Portuguese or not, is a non-diplomat residing in the country of their Consulate's operations. Appointed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, their role is to represent and safeguard the interests and rights of the Portuguese State and its citizens, particularly in cities lacking an official representation. Though usually incapable of performing consular acts, in exceptional cases, they may be authorized to register voters, carry out civil registration and notarial acts, and issue travel documents. Their activities, within their jurisdiction, are overseen by the Head of the Mission they are affiliated with.

This consulate representation does not engage VFS services and therefore handles all visa applications independently. This means that all aspects, from application collection to decision-making, are internally managed which may extend the processing times due to increased workload.

• Portuguese Tax Number (NIF): a unique tax identification number required for financial transactions in Portugal. You can obtain it at any tax office or through a fiscal representative.

The application usually goes through the Portuguese consulate of your home country if you are not from Spain. Most visas first grant temporary residence, which can lead to permanent residence after five years. Requirements and processing times change: check them before applying.
