Visitors are usually required to schedule their visits in advance via the Embassy's website. In terms of Visa appointments, it's likely they collaborate with a service provider like VFS that takes care of document collection and interview. Alternatively, they may also employ the E-Visa system to gather all necessary information and generate an online form leading to your in-person appointment at the Consular Section of the Embassy.

This consular representation does not engage VFS services and therefore it oversees all visa applications directly. From collecting applications to decision-making, all steps are internally managed, ensuring comprehensive control over the visa process. However, it may lead to elongated processing times owing to the increased workload.

• Portuguese Tax Number (NIF): a unique tax identification number required for financial transactions in Portugal. You can obtain it at any tax office or through a fiscal representative.

The application usually goes through the Portuguese consulate of your home country if you are not from Kenya. Most visas first grant temporary residence, which can lead to permanent residence after five years. Requirements and processing times change: check them before applying.
