Why did you decide to move to Portugal?
After spending two weeks in Portugal earlier this year, I realized that I felt more aligned with a European lifestyle. My observation is that there is a higher standard of excellence in how people look out for each other in everyday communal interactions, better access to live a healthy life, and an overall beauty of the physical environment both in nature and architecture. Experiencing this aligns better with the person I wish to become and the experience I had been having in the US for the last couple years. I was in a period of transition after my most recent job concluded when I decided to pursue a Master's of Sociology in Lisbon to advance in my professional and educational trajectory. I am motivated by learning how to express my ideas better and substantively by learning in an international environment, beyond my previous education solely in the United States. After ten years of professional experience in education access, I have developed observations and entrepreneurial ideas that I believe I can test and explore more fully by living in Portugal and learning from this Master's program.
My parents also decided to move to Portugal as they enter retirement. Our shared decision reflects our collective goal to live in a place that would allow us to afford the cost of everyday life better, while embracing values in connection and healthy living.
